Creativity and Wellness Survey in the Chicago Film & TV Industry Survey Results

In 2020 the film and TV industry faced several reckonings on questions of harm in production. Workers below- and above-the-line protested and threatened to strike as they faced downward pressure on wages, increasing demand for their labor, and struggled to maintain their livelihoods and health during a pandemic.

In this context, the Media and Data Equity Lab partnered with OTV | Open Television and the Independent Film Alliance to conduct a survey of Chicago's film & TV workers to assess the impact of increasing production in the city on its workers.

AbelCine and IFA Chicago Partner to Support Indie Filmmakers

CHICAGO, IL – August 05, 2021 – The Independent Film Alliance of Chicago and AbelCine are collaborating on the development of a community center on the Cinespace Chicago lot. Programming will address the business, creative, and technical aspects of independent production. The organizations will focus on developing the potential of local independent producers and filmmakers and introducing them to emerging techniques.

We believe that producers are integral to that mission and, in developing programming for them, felt that it was important to understand the specific needs of Chicago’s independent producers. This led us to develop and launch the Chicago Producer Survey in February 2021.

A cohort of young professionals assured industry leaders that the future of Chicago production is in good hands at Cinespace Chicago Film Studios on Monday afternoon. Highlighting the Wrap Party for the Mirkopoulos Internship Program, each member of the group had just finished working as temporary crew on Chicago Fire / PD / Med, and Empire, and they accepted their program completion certificates with an Oscar-worthy level of gratitude, grace, and confidence.
