About the Film

The Killing of Kenneth Chamberlain tells the true story of the final hours of the life of Kenneth Chamberlain Sr., an elderly African American veteran with bipolar disorder, who was killed during a conflict with police officers who were sent to his home to check on him. At 5:22 AM on November 19, 2011, Chamberlains’ medical alert device was mistakenly activated; police arrived shortly thereafter. Despite Kenneth informing the officers there was a mistake and he did not have an emergency, they were recorded taunting Kenneth, ridiculing his military service, howling racial epithets at him, and finally, the officers broke down his door and shot him to death. The Killing of Kenneth Chamberlain speaks powerfully to our current national conversation about police brutality, institutional racism, and how we treat our most vulnerable citizens.

Executive produced by Lori McCreary, Gary Lucchesi, and Academy Award winner Morgan Freeman of Revelations Entertainment, the film was developed and produced in coordination with the Chamberlain family, as well as law enforcement reform advocates. Produced by Redbird Entertainment in association with Voltages Pictures, and distributed by Gravitas Ventures, TKOKC was released theatrically in late 2021. The film received a 96% on Rotten Tomatoes, and garnered an Outstanding Lead Performance Gotham Award for lead actor Frankie Faison. With several additional awards and nominations, including 3 Independent Spirit Award nominations and an NAACP Image Award nomination, the film has made a significant impact in the film industry, as well as the movement for justice and accountability for the Chamberlain family.
